ARRAIGNED. Al Sharpton, 34, for fraud, grand larceny and
falsifying business records; in New York City. A flamboyant,
porcine preacher, he gained national notoriety as an adviser to
Tawana Brawley, the black teenager who claimed that a gang of white
males abducted and raped her in November 1987. A grand jury
investigation found that Brawley's allegations were a hoax.
Sharpton is charged with stealing more than $250,000 from the
National Youth Movement, an organization he founded 18 years ago.
